A chance exposure to the Golden Pottery line of tableware kindled in Soni Dave a desire to create her own pottery. She began her training in pottery under Devi Prasad in 1999, who helped her understand the nature and temperament of clay, pampering it to mould it to create forms of varying texture and character. She attended the various workshops he held, and in the process learning tool making, kiln making and Raku. Under his guidance she built her own kiln. She also attended a coil and pinch workshop with John French in 1999. She has her own studio in Delhi and her work is always the part of many prestigious ceramic exhibitions. She also conducts pottery workshops for teachers and school-children and works with traditional potter communities to develop new designs and rural communities to promote sustainable livelihoods.
Soni Dave lives and works in New Delhi.
