Atul Dodiya was born in 1959 in Mumbai where he later studied at the J.J.School of Arts. He has held several solo shows and participated in many an important exhibition in India and abroad including "Seventeen Indian Painters", Jehangir Art Gallery, Bombay (1988); "The Richness of the Spirit", National Museum Kuwait and Egyptian Academy, Rome (1988-89); and "India Contemporary Art", World Trade Centre, Amsterdam (1989).
In 1991, he was awarded a French Government Scholarship to study in Paris and the following year he participated in Exposition Collective' Cite Internationale Des Arts, Paris. He was awarded the Sotheby's Prize for contemporary Indian Art, 1999.
Dodiya lives and works in Mumbai.
